Heaven Can Wait / Gainsbourg Ft. Beck

Heaven Can Wait / Gainsbourg Ft. Beck

Stop Making Sense. If you are the kind of fella who’s always trying to figure out what the hell is goig on in a video, we kindly suggest you to lose yourself in this one.

“Heaven Can Wait” is first single from “IRM”, the brend new record from lovely french singer Charlotte Gainsbourg – and features Balenciaga icon – Serge’s daughter and her mate Beck, both stranded in a weird world expressly created for them by LA director Keith Schofield.

Be prepared for everything: from Charlotte Gainsbourg holding a baby in a hot dog costume to Beck playing Super Nintendo with a dude in a horse mask.

And of course, don’t forget the Giant Bomb with the world “Nachos” on it. Hear Keith about this:“We were trying to think of a funny, nonsensical thing. What would be something that wouldn’t be interpreted as having meaning or making a statement. Because writing a word on a bomb can get pretty pretentious. Unless that word is nachos.” Sounds perfectly clear, Keith.

A Shaded View On Fashion Film – ASVOFF – Milano

A Shaded View On Fashion Film – ASVOFF – Milano

After Paris, Mexico City, Seoul, and Moscow, ASVOFF is finally making a stop in Milano. In addition to its annual selection, its Milan addition for the festival has a section dedicated to the theme of “light”, chosen by Diane Pernet, curator and creator of the festival. All the videos comissioned by Diane Pernet in collaboration with Italian Vogue will be one minute short. Diane has always believed in the video as a form of contemporary communication capable of cultural blending, as much as tool facilitating free creativity that explores the intersection between fashion and motion.

The exhibition is coordinated by Federico Poletti and Sara Maino and presents a hundred documentaries and films. The quality is very high, from “Beauty” by the Italian artist Cosimo Terlizzi, to “Sunshowers” (the Festival trailer) by the videomakers Leverock Elisha Smith and “Auguries Of Innocence” from New York based videomaker Jason Last.

Visions from the future – Iridescent Worlds

Visions from the future – Iridescent Worlds

Challenging space and time has always been one of the overriding aims of Science Fiction, as well as the starting point from which the plot of the story should unfold its events. Well, at least this process worked in late 60s when science fiction was born, before the actual computer diffusion and domination. Instead, our multi-media era is distinguished by the raising of masses’ power of expression and interaction, which blew up very quickly and in quite unexpected ways considering the Internet, the new technologies and the audio-visual improvements.

The role of science and fiction thus becomes crucial nowadays, tracing our everyday reality. Curious? Get this new-media visual experience and delve into the issue through “Visions from the future – Iridiscent Worlds” – an international competition of video and live media presented by Cronosfera (May 28th – 29th – 30th, Turin, Italy).

Now that Science Fiction has become part of our everyday life and we’re actually experiencing it, we can say that there’s no fiction anymore, while science, instead, has extremely grown up.

“An attempted interview with Harris Savides ”

“An attempted interview with Harris Savides”

We were so impressed by the skill of the director and friend Kahlil Joseph, of which we have already published the video “I need a dollar” shot for Aloe Blacc, that we decided to publish one of his most recent work, a brief interview with director of photography Harris Savides known to have collaborated with internationally renowned directors such as Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola and Ridley Scott just to name a few.
“Harris Savides: CAMERA DRESS” is a short film shot for Built by Wendy specially for one of her limited edition. Conceived on the set of Sofia Coppola’s new film “Somewhere” by filmmaker Kahlil Joseph, it stars the famously elusive cinematographer Harris Savides and his daughter, fourteen year old Sophie Savides – in an attempt to interview the star lensman.

The cleaners wear Prada

The cleaners wear Prada

Michael Nyman video “Cleaners Wear Prada” was presented On world premiere at the Fashion Museum at Palazzo Morando.
The new exhibition space will host from 25th to 30th May “A shaded view on Fashion Film”, the first fashion film festival created by Diane Pernet, pioneering journalist and blogger, among the first to believe in the video as a new language for the fashion.

“Cleaners wear Prada” is the only Nyman video where the link with fashion world is evident, as we can guess from the title. As Nyman said, his videos and photos are absolutely random, apparently the result of an “accident.”
With a technique-no technique and low-fi results , the video tells the history of two window cleaners working at the legendary Prada store in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan.
Nyman has followed the movements and gestures of the two unwitting actors in the early morning, he had just left the hotel, when his curiosity was caught by this scene.

After creating wonderful soundtracks for films by Peter Greenaway and Jan Champion, Nyman casually became a photographer and film director. You can see a series of photos taken during his travels – in agreement with the structural view of his music – and a series of videos: unpublished collection by Diane Pernet at Galleria Carla Sozzani Cine Opera.
This collection shows everyday life episodes tied to tradition, when in the video, sometimes even without soundtrack,  some old men from the south of Italy play ancient Morra game, inside an extravagant mix of local sounds and his musical repertoire.

YSL Vs LCD Soundsystem

Yves Saint Laurent vs LCD SoundSystem

Yves Saint Laurent is playing in my house. It’s no secret that fashion system always had a crush on DJ scene, so nobody got surprised when YSL asked James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem to perform a track during last women’s wear fall/winter 2010/2011 fashion show in Paris.
Tuning to 70’s vibe Yves’ collection, James covered 1979 Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra “Beginning of the Hearbreak”.

If you weren’t so lucky to attend the show that day, take your chance next April 27 when DFA Records will finally release-please take note- not the James Murphy cover, but a remix version of the track by Mr.Gordon himself.

Vampire Weekend / Contra

Vampire Weekend / Contra

Try to imagine Jake Gyllenhaal playing like a drunk Nadal, or Joe Jones from Jonas Brothers acting as a naughty Federer.
Want some more? Here comes RZA as the most serious line-judge ever seen on the high chair and a stylish Lil Jon turning into a skillful tennis coach.
You know, sometimes reality gets more weird than fantasy when you mess with the mighty Vampire Weekend.
We are talking about their brand new video, “Giving up the gun”, from Vampire’s brilliant second album “Contra” (highly recommended, by the way).

Putting together this people on the same set might sound quite impossible but, as director Emmett Malloy says: “The planets just aligned and everybody happened to be around”.
Well, they say fortune helps the brave.
But when it’s not enough, you better have the right numbers to give a call.

Wonder Room 25th of February

Wonder Room 25th of February

Skye Parrott’s deeply introspective body of work, which draws energy from the likes of Nan Goldin (albeit a comparatively blithe energy), is tinged with the sublime ardor of human relation and a profound understanding of emotion. Through her photographs, the New York-based artist has appropriately honed a sensitive and poignant eye towards exploring the immense beauty that is to be found in even the most unlikely of instants. She has worked for clients as diverse as APC and Nike and has contributed to a range of seminal publications such as Purple, Vogue, Dazed & Confused, and Wallpaper* and is creative director and co-founder of the art journal, Dossier.

A special vision of Parrott’s photography is to be set forth in a seven-part slideshow by SM.
The work is next in line to grace Wonder-Room’s conceptual hybrid space in Milan.

Wonder-Room’s continual evolution is driven by a talented group of protagonists of visual culture, together comprising a collective focused on transforming the Milan and world creative scenes.
Wonder-Room
will continue its trajectory with several more unexpected experiments in creativity over the coming months.

Big appreciation for making everything possible goes out to Francesco Petroni for creative consultancy & art direction of the website, Giulio Martinelli for art direction of the website, the staff of ZoomArt for the development of the blog, Daniele Messa for development of the website, and last but not least, the staff of 2DM Management.
